The Blacktino Connection

The Blacktino Connection blog is a site for African Americans, Caribbeans, and Afro-Latinos to come together and learn about each other. The blog will discuss current issues within our communities and address our lack of communication. All of us have come from descendants of slaves. It does not matter if Spanish, French, Portuguese or English is our native language. We must come together as people who have been oppressed and fight for human rights. But first, we must unite. We can not do that without knowing each other and embracing our distinct intertwined cultures. Many of our African American brothers and sisters fail to know that there are Black brothers and sisters in Brazil and so forth. WE are all black people, part of the Pan- African movement. We must begin to love ourselves, and rise above the adversity. Yes we can, si se puede!

The author of The Blacktino Connection is Stephanie Claytor. She is a Broadcast Journalism, International Relations, and Spanish major at Syracuse University. Her concentration within International Relations is Latin America with a focus on Caribbean and Afro-Latino studies. When Claytor has free-time (which is rare), she enjoys Latin dancing, shopping, watching movies, and traveling. Claytor studied abroad in the Dominican Republic during the Spring of 2007. This is why many of her articles are based on the Dominican Republic. Claytor is also a native of Twinsburg, Ohio (outside of Cleveland, Ohio). She grew up in a traditional African American family and her writing reflects those experiences as well. Claytor is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated, Iota Upsilon Chapter, and the National Association of Black Journalists, Syracuse Chapter.

  1. Great articles featured on the website. Why not add a provocative question related to the articles to stimulate conversation? Good luck.
